Our History From 1893 to the Present

FOUNDED IN 1893, we have been an integral part of historic downtown Fort Pierce since before the city’s incorporation in 1901. We have grown with Fort Pierce and remain a strong part of the “Main Street” community. Through the founding this city, storms, wars, economic and social changes, we have been here and will continue to love and serve our community, building bridges of grace to our neighbors.

By the late 1950’s St. Andrew’s had outgrown our original “Carpenter Gothic” church building. Upon completion of our current worship space in 1960, the congregation donated (and shipped on a barge) the old church to a new congregation in Satellite Beach, to serve the growing area around NASA and the Space Coast. In 1970, St. Andrew’s founded St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, which has grown into the pre-K-12 St. Andrew’s Episcopal Academy, a nationally accredited college preparatory school with a rich tradition of superior learning and student engagement.

In early 2022, a new pipe organ was installed, custom designed for St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. The instrument has 38 ranks (plus 9 digital) and is controlled by a 3 manual console. The organ is designed to support the worship and choral traditions of the congregation, but has been designed to accommodate wide body of organ literature from many styles and periods. Behind the visible pipes, are 2,147 additional pipes with numerous wind-chests, reservoirs, expression shades, and other components that make up this custom instrument. While most of the organ is new, some pipes from our older instrument were retained and rebuilt to celebrate the stewardship gifts that provided the original a pipe organ of St. Andrew’s.

The vitality of the parish has been evident throughout our history, upholding classical Christianity in the tradition of the Anglican Communion and Episcopal Church, not only through our dedication to worship, but also through consistent acts of returning thanks for God’s many blessings in formation, service, and generosity. We are recognized as a diverse congregation with a strong outreach to the community, and a warm welcome to all whom God brings into our midst.

We believe our journey is just beginning, and invite you join us!
